Merge — Privacy Policy

Merge is a commercial subscription service operated by Entangled World ("we"). It provides each customer household with a private shared calendar at its own web address. Every household has its own separate database and can only ever see its own calendars.

This policy covers everyone who signs in to Merge — subscribers and the household members they add.

What we access, and why

With your consent at sign-in, Merge accesses your Google Calendar through the Google Calendar API — reading events and calendar details so they can be shown alongside the rest of your household's, and creating, changing or deleting events when you ask it to. Access to your calendar is what the app is for; it is not used for any other purpose.

If you connect an Apple iCloud calendar, Merge uses an app-specific password you supply to read and write that calendar the same way. If you add a work or school calendar feed, Merge reads it to show your availability.

What we store

• A copy of the calendar events in your household's connected calendars, kept so the app can display them quickly. It is refreshed from the source calendars continually.
• Google refresh tokens and Apple app-specific passwords, encrypted at rest with a key derived separately for each household, used only to sync calendars.
• Your name, email address and profile picture, to identify you within your household.
• Your household's roster and settings: who is in it, display colours, which calendars are connected and how they are shown.
• Account and billing records for the subscribing household — who subscribed, when, and contact details. Payment card details are never stored on our servers; payment is arranged directly with us or through a payment processor.

Each household's data lives in its own database file. Nothing in one household's data is readable from another.

What we never do

• We never sell your data. Your calendar content is never shared with anyone outside your household, and is not used for any commercial purpose beyond providing the service your household pays for.
• We never use it for advertising, and run no advertising or analytics trackers.
• We never use it to train machine-learning or AI models.
• No human reads your calendar content, except where you explicitly ask for support and give permission, or where the law requires it.

Google API Services disclosure

Merge's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data is used only to provide and improve the household calendar features you can see in the app; it is not transferred to others except as needed to provide those features, to comply with the law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with notice; it is not used for advertising; and no human reads it except with your permission, for security, or as required by law.

Who else is involved

• Google — calendar data and sign-in, when you connect a Google account.
• Apple — calendar data, when you connect an iCloud calendar.
• Fly.io — hosting. The application and its databases run on servers Fly.io operates in the United States.

There are no other processors, and no data is sent anywhere else.

How long we keep it

Calendar data is kept while your household uses Merge. Deleted events are held in a recycle box for 30 days so they can be restored, then removed. Backups of household data are kept for a short rolling window and then deleted.

Your choices

• Disconnect Google at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Merge immediately loses access.
• Disconnect Apple by removing the connection in Settings.
• Ask for your data, or for it to be deleted, by writing to the contact below. When a household leaves, any events Merge added to members' own calendars are removed first, then the household's data is deleted.

Children

Children are added to a household only by a parent in that household. Merge stores no more about a child than it does about anyone else: a name, an email address and their calendar.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your data is used, the date above will change and households will be told before it takes effect.
